Near Death Experience

Yesterday I picked up Nic from work at 2:30pm. As we were driving towards home on University Avenue I noticed the cars in front of me were swerving from side to side. Nic was looking down at his phone text messaging or something when suddenly I gasped. He quickly looked up and we both saw a black Charger coming straight at us. This car was driving in head on traffic on a 50 mph road swerving back and fourth. I put my foot on the break to give myself more time to figure out how to dodge this black Charger. I was in the right hand lane when he was in the left hand lane but saw that he was starting to swerve toward me in the right hand lane. So I decided to swerve over into the left hand lane. (Luckily there was nobody next to me at the time because I did not have time to check over my shoulder before I swtiched lanes. I did not want to take my eyes off of the car that was coming at me head on!) He passed by us on our right and accelerated off.
Soon after that we noticed some debri in the road and saw that red Jeep had been hit. The guy in the red Jeep pulled over with a flat tire and banged up car. He got out of his car and was pissed that the guy had just hit him and drove off and was yelling at him down the street. We imediately called the police and pulled over to make sure he was okay. It turns out his girlfriend had been driving behind him who also had to swerve out of the way and ended up on the side walk and popped her back tire.
Some guys in a Porsche saw the whole thing and chased after the Charger. The guy in the Charger had some how gotten back on the correct side of the road and was stopped at the next light ahead and was going to make a left hand turn. The Porsche pulled up behind the Charger while he was stopped in the turning lane and they broke into his car and took the keys out of the ignition. The guy was completely drunk and was saying, "I'm okay, I'm okay, don't worry about me."
The police finally arrived at the scene and I guess this guy had already had a suspended license for drunk driving and was imediately on his way to jail after failing many sobriety tests. We had to wait a little ways down the street until the police were through with him and then we filled out the witness sheet. The whole thing was completely NUTS! Totally indescribable! I was shaking for quite a while after this happend. I just can't believe this drunk guy did not cause any worse accidents. University Avenue is a busy street with high speed limits and with all the cars that we saw swerving out of his way it is a miracle that everyone survived without a scratch!

Soooo scary. I am glad you were OK and they caught that guy. He should be locked up and never able to drive again.

Man, you and your driving stories. :-) I am glad that everything is fine, and that no one got hurt, but maybe you should have said that he hit your bumper! (he he) What a crazy thing to happen.
